In this collaged, textured rethinking of a classical portrait, Shrobe uses photographs of his family as an impetus for the work. Muecas is a moment of celebration and highlights the interconnectedness between a father, mother and daughter who hold a kind of mutual space as they merge into one another, seated in a natural landscape with a twinkling blue sky that envelopes them. There’s a unity in their togetherness that speaks to the vitality of family life andshowcases a playful moment where the family is making silly faces or “Muecas”in Spanish.
