Carla Arocha's sublime, abstract work can be defined
as a critical discourse around the ways of differentiating seeing and
looking, postulated as a reflection on modern constructions of the gaze.
(Kunsthalle Bern press release) Arocha's solo show Luz at the MUHKA contemporary
art museum in Antwerp contiunes through February 12th
http://www.muhka.be/press.php?la=en&type=&jaar=2005&month_id=11.
Dirt, a solo show curated by Jesús Fuenmayor and Philippe Pirotte
opens at the Kunsthalle Bern, Switzerland on April 28th with a full catalogue.
Currently Arocha is featured along with Dzine at ARCO 06 Madrid at moniquemeloche's
booth in a curated section of the art fair "The under 40s" at
the invitation of Peter Doroshenko & Pedro Alonzo.
Robert Davis + Michael Langlois will present 4 new drawings
in direct relationship to their current solo show Teenagers from Mars
at Changing Role Move Over Gallery in Naples Italy. With a mix of soft-core
lust, punk rock, and American history, the artists offer the following
insight:
Bi -Curious 300 Y.O. Native American Sugar Daddy seeks underage M/F to
help take back what's mine. I'm slim and athletic with dark and soft leathery
skin. I need a little violence and alien promiscuity in my life. I need
help getting back a little something I lost in the war. Communication
skills are a must. Multiple languages, and Islamic calligraphy skills
a plus. I like it when you talk dirty in Farsi. Will provide a desolate
environment for our encounters. Let's trade face pics. You must be drug/disease
free, and play safe. Can you handle this B-Film born invasion? Hit me
up I'm online now!
Davis + Langlois will be in the March issue of Domino magazine reporting
on the PULSE Miami art fair. http://www.exibart.com/profilo/eventiV2.asp/idelemento/26912
Christopher Patch, now fully entrenched in Brooklyn,
has sent us a much anticipated selection of new works on paper. Continuing
his fascination with the great outdoors, Patchs' landscapes are now tinged
with a darker, more sinister feel and oscillate from land to sea. Scary
scuba divers, ominious forests, and pirates ship abound! Patch will be
included in the upcoming group show Poets on Painters curated by Katie
Geha at the Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita in 2007. Check out some of his
latest paintings and drawings on PARTYKA online http://partykausa.com/guests/cp_001.shtml.
Alison Ruttan is offering us a glimpse into a future
video project based on her recent fascination with the over-sexed, and
grooming obsessed Bonobo monkey. Ruttan was the first artist-in-residence
at the Wild Animal Park outside San Diego last year, where she was allowed
unprecedented access to shoot video in the field. A new series of drawings
(yes drawings) continues her investigation of "why we behave the
way we do" with sex and humour always playing a significant role.
A two-person show with Laura Carton Looking for Love in All the Right
Places curated by Andrew Harwood opens Feb. 25th at Gallery TPW in Toronto,
Canada. http://www.photobasedart.ca/html/exhibitions/exhibitions.html
